After Outworld's defeat by Earthrealm warriors,Shang Tsung was sentenced to death for his failure to that world's Emperor,Shao Kahn. However,the sorcerer suggested an idea to him about it and after having his life spared,Shang Tsung set out to meet Raiden and proposed to him a deal for one last deadly tournament and if Earthrealm wins again their world will be left. in peace forever. Raiden accepts the deal,along with his champion Liu Kang and other surviving fighters from the previous tournament depart for Outworld to face what they believed to be their last battle.
