Ian Malcolm is a mathematician and chaotician who survived the Isla Nublar Incident (although having been reported deceased). Now, he's crippled to the point he carries a walking cane. He still has his eccentric personality and all-black fashion preference, but the experience from the first island has changed him to be more sober and returns as a more measured man. After Levine tries to persuade Malcolm about a “lost world” where dinosaurs could have survived, Ian refuses this idea several times, but his curiosity gets the better of him.
