The character of Greer Grant-Nelson is a Chicago born superhero, and reserve member of the Avengers. In college, Greer met her husband, police officer Bill Nelson, who was killed off duty a couple years after their marriage. With no finances and a drop out, Greer gets hired by her mentor, Joanne Tumolo, to undergo a physical and mental augmentation experiment, which allowed Greer to be a vigilante known as the Cat. After being fatally wounded, Joanne brought Greer to a temple for a mystic ritual under the Cat People which bonded Greer's soul to their guardian spirit, TIGRA.
