Three years earlier, his wife had died, leaving Miss Trunchbull to care for Miss Honey. Miss Trunchbull took control of Miss Honey's home and inheritance after her father's death, claiming a letter left everything to her. When Matilda discovers Miss Trunchbull's abuse towards Miss Honey, she pretends Magnus's ghost is communicating to demand giving Miss Honey her rightful possessions back.
