J'onn J'onzz, a 300-year-old Martian warrior and philosopher (equivalent to mid-40s in human terms), finds himself stranded on Earth after a devastating tragedy wipes out his entire race on Mars. Disguised as a human detective named John Jones, he uses his shape-shifting abilities and powerful telepathy to solve crimes while quietly searching for a purpose in his new life. When J'onn stumbles upon a mysterious alien artifact tied to his people, he uncovers a conspiracy involving a secret government organization, Project Cadmus, and a villainous alien known as Malefic, who has followed him to Earth. As J'onn is forced to reveal himself and confront his past, he must decide whether to remain in the shadows or embrace his role as Earth's protector.
