Gaetano is a miner at the Collezolfo Sulfur Mine, he is the companion and friend of Enzo Favara. In August 1904, Enzo and Gaetano had managed to save up enough money to buy their freedom and leave for America, fetching it from a hiding spot deep in the mine. After stealing some food and calling it a day, Enzo and Gaetano had barely begun to relax when Don Ruggero Spadaro and his right-hand man, Il Merlo, ordered everyone back underground. Despite warnings from the other miners about tremors from nearby Mount Etna, Don Spadaro brushed off their concerns, with Il Merlo ordering Enzo and Gaetano to look for another group of miners that had gone missing. (Death) Gaetano and Enzo find the miners dead from fumes, they attempt to flee the collapsing mines, but a sudden gas leak triggers a cave-in. Gaetano dropping the money during their escape, he manages to retrieve it then struck by falling rocks and killed, while Enzo narrowly escapes. Gaetano's death profoundly impacts Enzo's path, as he is rescued by Don Torrisi, setting him on his journey within the Torrisi Crime Family.
