Lobo is a 1998 superhero film directed by Rob Zombie and written by David S. Goyer. Based on the DC Comics superhero of the same name, it is the first installment of the Lobo franchise. The film stars Danny Trejo as the titular character with Patrick Warburton, Jennifer Coolidge and Denise Richard in supporting roles. In the film, Lobo is a Czarian, a a member of a dying alien race who became a bounty hunter, together with his mentor Ramona and Waitress Darlene Spritzer, fight against evil aliens, namely the exceptionally evil dictator Goldstar. Released on August 21, 1998, Lobo was a commercial success, grossing $70 million at the U.S. box office, and $60.2 million worldwide. Despite mixed reviews from film critics, the film received a positive reception from audiences and has since garnered a cult following. It is also hailed as one of Trejo’s' signature roles. It was followed by two sequels, Lobo II and Lobo: Trinity, both written by Goyer who also directed the latter.
