Days Gone was adapted into a video game in 2019 and is part of the 28 Days Later franchise, a multi-media franchise about a fictional virus as the ''Hooligan Virus'' or the ''Freaker Virus'' that causes mutations in humans and other fauna, turning them into Freakers. Its spread across the United States and the world are responsible for the societal collapse and apocalyptic landscape, unlike the Rage Virus. The series follows various survivors in both America and Britain, as they fight to escape contaminated areas and reach designated safe zones, while they attempt to stay ahead of the masses of infected people around them between the characters such as Jim and Deacon St. John.
