Sylvia Pankhurst (b. 5 May 1882) is a syndicalist politician of the Union of Britain, most well known for her advocacy of women's suffrage and liberal socialism. Born in Old Trafford, Manchester, she was the daughter of barrister Richard Pankhurst and suffigette Emmeline Pankhurst. Pankhurst attended Manchester High School for Girls with her sisters, and all three became suffragists. Sylvia Pankhurst then trained as an artist at the Manchester School of Art. In 1900 she won a scholarship to the Royal College of Art in South Kensington, London, which Pankhurst attended between 1904 and 1906. There she witnessed gender inequality in the art profession.
