Harold "Hal" Jordan is a young man that lives in Coast City. He's a college student that is an avid member of the ROTC program, due to his aspiration to be like his father. However, when the threat of Brainiac comes to the Earth, a dying lantern named Abin Sur gives Hal a strange green ring, telling him to see the power within him, and that he hopes he has the will to use the ring. When gaining the ring, he finds that it bonds to him, and calls him to him, summoning him to the ranks and calling him Green Lantern.
