Jawbreaker is originally a film, released in 1999, about three of the most popular girls at Reagan High who accidentally kill their friend with a jaw-breaker. While there are plans to turn it into a Broadway musical, although it is unknown if the plans will be approved and when or if the musical will be on Broadway. There have been workshops and readings. Creative Commons Management describes the musical as "Jawbreaker: The Musical tells the "Faustian tale of 'Satan-in-heels' Courtney Shayne and her mean girl minions who play a fatal birthday prank on their best friend. When wallflower Fern Mayo catches the flawless three tucking their dead friend back into bed, Courtney promises to make Fern popular in exchange for her silence. Darkly comedic, [the musical] is about the lengths we go to belong. With a propulsive pop score that ranges from Lady Gaga style synth pop to lush melodic ballads, Jawbreaker tells a relatable, mythic story for anyone who survived high school."
