Jack is the catalyst of the story, being the heart of the group. He always wanted to be a champion in underground boxing, to become the king of the ring, just like his friends, to escape poverty, practically dedicating his life to it. But a cruel joke of fate cuts short his dreams, making him sick with tuberculosis and killing him in the process, forcing his friends to fulfill his cherished dream without knowing what that would do to them.
