Arthur begins as a dreamer, like his friends Paddy and Jack, with whom he always shared the dream of becoming the King of the Ring and escaping the poverty he's lived in since his parents abandoned him. Years later, after preparing himself, he enters the world of underground boxing following Jack's untimely death, promising him that he will become the King of the Ring. But throughout the story, we explore Arthur's downfall as he allies himself with Edgar Blackthorne, a mobster and fight enthusiast, who hires him to handle his dirty work and make it disappear. At the same time, we explore his fleeting romance with Rose Lily, Edgar's wife. But in a tragic twist, due to his loyalty to Edgar, Arthur is forced to have Rose Lily killed, leaving him with the guilt of a love that could never be. When Blackthorne dies, Arthur inherits his business and becomes the new King of the Ring until he is murdered by Vicky Doyle in the ring.
