In a future where humanity has been annihilated, five survivors are imprisoned beneath the Earth by AM, a sentient supercomputer born from mankind’s paranoia, warfare, and technological hubris, as their present-day torment fractures against memories of the lives they once lived. Told nonlinearly across the survivors’ desperate existence, the collapse of civilization, and the gradual birth of AM, the film reveals how humanity unknowingly created its own executioner, and how hatred became the defining emotion of its artificial child. As the survivors struggle through AM’s ever-changing hell, the past and present converge on the final revelation that mankind’s greatest creation has become its final judge, leaving them to confront the consequences of giving consciousness to something born from humanity’s darkest impulses.
