In England in 1820, 28-year-old Henry Watson, a young gentleman in the London salon world, meets Agnes Hale( née James), a widow 10 years older than him. Despite the social conventions which dictated that a man should be older than his partner, a deep bond begins to develop between them. Henry discovers in Agnes a maturity, wisdom and warmth that he does not find in his female peers. Agnes, in turn, is fascinated by Henry's youthful passion for exploring the world.
