He was one of the original residents of Alexandria Safe-Zone, a quarantine zone for survivors of Washington, D.C. Formally working as a recruiter for the community, Aaron scouted the wasteland for survivors to join Alexandria. Aaron was also responsible for bringing Rick Grimes and his group into Alexandria and developed a close bond with them, making Aaron one of Rick's most trusted allies. Shortly after a mission led to the recruitment program being suspended, a herd broke through the walls and invaded Alexandria, but Aaron helped Rick's group defeat the zombies from the inside. Later, an extortionist group known as the Saviors occupied Alexandria, forcing them and the other communities under the Savior's rule to fight back. After the Savior War, Aaron became a prominent member of the Militia. Three years later, Aaron fought in the Whisperer War against a primitivist cult called the Whisperers that threatened the communities. During the war, he entered a relationship with Paul "Jesus" Monroe, the recruiter for the Hilltop Colony. Aaron and Jesus were responsible for killing Beta, the Whisperers' de-facto leader, putting an end to the Whisperers and the war. Aaron and Jesus traveled to the Commonwealth, a secured city of fifty-thousand survivors in Ohio with its own trading network. Riots occurred due to the city's wealth inequality and police brutality, resulting in attracting a herd. Aaron and Jesus helped defeat the herd in the city and peacefully ended the Commonwealth Uprising. Shortly after, Rick Grimes was assassinated by Sebastian Milton, son of the Commonwealth's leader, Governor Pamela Milton. In the following twenty-five years after Rick's death, civilization was relatively restored. Aaron and Jesus continued to live together on a farm by the riverbank.
