After joining the Justice League, Shayera tries to discover more about her past, what her dreams mean, and where her powers come from. She enlists the help of Batman, who puts her to work with the most skilled detective he knows, Detective Chip. But why is he a chimpanzee? The investigation leads to other "Hawkgirls" throughout history, the oldest known being from Ancient Egypt, while the most recent was part of the Justice Society in the last century. Leaving her with more questions than answers about herself and her powers. However, her search is interrupted when she is attacked by an old Justice Society villain, who has sworn revenge against the former Hawkgirl. And who is the man Shayera has been dreaming about?
