Argus Filch is a squib and the current caretaker of Hogwarts, a role he has held since 1973. He is jealous of the students of Hogwarts due to his inability to produce magic. This leads him to treat them poorly and he enjoys punishing the more rebellious students. This behaviour has lessened in recent years however due to the respect Argus gained for helping defend the school in the Second Wizarding War which lead the newer students to treat him with more respect and kindness.
