Vasili Afanasyevich Gogol-Yanovsky, also known as Vasyl Panasovych Hohol-Yanovsky, was the author of several theater pieces in Russian and Ukrainian and the father of the writer Nikolai Gogol. He was the landlord of the village of Vasilyevka (now Hoholeve, Poltava Oblast) and a descendant of the Ukrainian Cossack noble families of Gogol (Hohol) and Lizogub.
