In the year 2981, hiking in the foothill caves of Galaxy Alliance planet Albega in the Hyperion Galaxy, teens Alexis, Diego and Jacoby uncover three giant gladiator-shaped robots that combine to form the Gladiator Voltron of the Middle Universe. Bringing them back to Alexis' father the Professor Vekoma of Aoba Central High School, they use the robots to compete in a science fair robotics tournament. But the three find themselves being roped into a war with the One Empire of the Derinja that threatens Albega.
