After the defeat at the Battle of the Teutoburg Forest, Publius Varus miraculously escapes, gravely wounded. He is found by slave traders who save his life only to sell him as a gladiator in Rome. But with Tiberius in power, disappointed by the loss of his legions, he eliminates all traces of the Varus family. The gladiator is in grave danger when his identity is exposed; only a few remain alive to help him and strike a blow against Tiberius.
