
In 1910s Brooklyn, young George Gershwin discovers his love for music, dropping out to work in Tin Pan Alley. By the 1920s, his Rhapsody in Blue premieres to acclaim, capturing Jazz Age New York. Romancing composer Kay Swift and collaborating with brother Ira, George faces critics and health issues. The 1930s bring Porgy and Bess and a friendship with Duke Ellington but headaches worsen. In 1937, a brain tumor claims George at 38. Spielberg intercuts his final moments with memories of his music, ending with Rhapsody echoing in 1940s New York.
