Alfhild's mother, who also came from a wealthy family and was married to Kjell in an arrangement make by their parents. Demure and soft-spoken, Hilde keeps to the shadows and tends to whatever her husband and children need with such devotion that many rarely acknowledge her. She sympathizes with Alfhild's plight, but feels that she's just going through a rebellious phase that she'll eventually grow out of, just like Hilde did.
