Under a local cafe he sees a 19-year-old girl dressed in a white and beautiful dress. The girl turns out to be an aristocrat and immediately charms young Ludwig with her beauty and charm. She thinks that he would never be interested in her because of her background, which turns out not to be true. The girl, bored with what she thinks is an uninteresting life of an aristocrat, seeks deviations from it, sometimes spending time with people from the lower classes, sometimes with the homeless and poor. Young Ludwgi, not looking like a nobleman in her opinion, attracts her attention. She smiles at him then enters the building and sits at a table alone. Ludwig, despite some doubts, decided to try to strike up a conversation with her. When he walks inside, the girl waves to him. He squats down next to her and between them.... A conversation is struck up. In the process, he learns her name-Elise. The girl explains to him who she is and he to her. She is well-read and, like him, interested in music. They become friends, however, they meet secretly, as it was shameful for the arithocrat to meet someone from the lower classes. After two years of friendship, a love develops between them which comes to light. Elise's family wants to disown her, but gives her a chance - she marries another aristocrat. The desperate girl has no choice-she marries a man she does not love.

When her husband is away on business, Ludwig and Elise decide to take a trip to the countryside. Elise loves flowers and the meadow above all else because she associates them with carefree, love and freedom. The two play in the meadow, in the pond and finally admire the full moon. They kiss for the first time. After returning to Vienna, they part and promise to meet again, which never happens. At home, her strict husband was waiting for her. Ludwig is beaten by him, while Elise was forbidden to leave the house in his absence. In addition, she decides that they will move out of Vienna. However, Elise asks him to fulfill her last wish-save Ludwig. The man complies with her request and takes him to the doctor where he lies that Ludwig fell down the stairs. Elise visits her beloved in the hospital where she holds his hand and kisses him goodbye until her husband sees it. After that, she leaves the hospital with tears in her eyes, however, leaving him a small memento-a tiny porcelain flower. When the man recovers, he returns home depressed and, despite his advancing deafness and longing, devotes himself to making music. He has never completely forgotten these events, but when, at the age of 40, he finds a memento from Elise he decides to create a piece dedicated to their love-"Für Elise”
