A former highly prestigious doctor who used to have a practice in Pittsburgh. Valerie lost her daughter in a car crash 9 years prior to the events of the series and started drinking heavily. Her husband divorced her because of this. She moved to New Wilmington 3 years before the series where she started attending Alcohol's Anonymous. She met Joel there who helped her get a job at the local morgue. The two formed a strong bond and helped one another get through the steps and she is now 2 years sober.
