In 1989, during the last stock car race of the season, the Torettos are on the track. Jackie Toretto is one of the racers and comes off for a pit stop. Jackie’s daughters Dominique and Jaklyn are a part of her Pit Crew. While Jaklyn works under the hood, Dom argues with the Pit Crew of rival racer Kennya Linder as she is being a dirty racer. As Jackie is about to get back into the race she tells Dom to let it go, saying it’s not about being the stronger woman but about being the bigger woman. As Jackie gets back on the track to resume the race, Kennya resumes as well, as they near the next lap Kennya’s car clips Jackie’s bumper and causes her to hit a wall at 120 Mph, her car then bursting into flames in the process and killing her. Dom sees this and tries to run on to the track to save her mom but is held back by Lina, another member of Jackie's pit crew. Dom and Jaklyn both watch as their mother dies in front of them.
