Synopsis

The sitcom Everybody Hates Chris (2005–2009) is about the misadventures of Chris, a 13-year-old African-American teenager growing up in Brooklyn, New York in 1982. The show is based on the life of comedian Chris Rock, who also narrates and executive produces the show. The show follows Chris as he tries to navigate his family, his all-white school, and the challenges of life, while realizing that not everyone around him is what they seem. Chris is surrounded by eccentric family members, including his frugal father Julius, intimidating mother Rochelle, spoiled sister Tonya, and younger brother Drew, who is more popular than Chris. The show is set in Bedford–Stuyvesant, a neighborhood of Brooklyn that was plagued by drugs and gangs at the time.
