He was an American man who attempted to assassinate Donald Trump, the 45th president of the United States and the Republican Party's presumptive nominee for the 2024 presidential election. On July 13, 2024, during a speech by Trump at a campaign rally near Butler, Pennsylvania, Crooks used an AR-15-style semiautomatic rifle that was purchased by his father to fire eight shots from a rooftop about 400 feet north of the stage. Crooks shot Trump in the right ear while he was speaking, killing an audience member and seriously injuring two other people. Upon being located during the firefight, Crooks was immediately killed by snipers from the United States Secret Service Counter Strike Team.
