Prince Hans Westergaard is the main antagonist of Disney's 2013 animated feature film Frozen. As the 13th-born prince of the Southern Isles, Hans was burdened with the inability to ascend his family's throne. Desperate for power and recognition, he sought to marry Princess Anna of Arendelle with the purpose of usurping the throne of Queen Elsa and taking over as king. Hans is loosely based on the Devil Troll Mirror from the Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale The Snow Queen, while also subverting the "Prince Charming" archetype that is common in fairytales with his villainous nature.
