This version is different from the jolly old Saint Nick we know of, he's jaded, sarcastic and has a foul mouth. After thousands of years on the job and the growing modern cynicism around the holiday, the pressure and dispassion grew on him making him feel that the Christmas spirit is dying. He's struggling to keep the North Pole under control after one of his elves went rogue and stole the ancient magical artefact known as the Christmas Star, the source of the Christmas spirit and gives him and the North Pole their magic, to use it to destroy Christmas. He reluctantly decides to team up with Lucas and Angela after they've been magically transported to the North Pole to save Christmas.
