Dinah Laurel Lance, born into a family of crime fighters; her mother was a former vigilante Black Canary and her father was a Gotham police officer, grew up surrounded by her mother's friends, who belonged to the Justice Society. Inspired by her mother's heroic past, she decided that one day she would become the Black Canary. At one point, Dinah's 'Canary Cry' was the result of her being cursed by the criminal the Wizard during her childhood. However, due to mysterious changes in the timeline, these sonic powers were later said to have been a byproduct of Dinah possessing the metagene, making her a super-powered metahuman since birth.
