In the late 80s/early 90s, actor David Burton claimed he had been cast as The Eighth Doctor, and had worked on a number of pilot episodes produced by 'Milenium Productions' that would be shown to the BBC in an effort to get the Doctor Who license. Burton highlighted some of the details of the pilot episodes, referencing that there were two companions called Heart and Diamond, and that the TARDIS was a regular red phone box instead of a blue police box as it was assumed that most children in the 1990s would not remember the old police boxes. He later spoke about how the series was axed and all evidence of it being filmed was destroyed. It has been speculated by fans for years whether Burton's story was true, or if he lied about the entire thing as a way to get a sponsorship by Proton, who gave him a car to attend events because of him supposedly being cast as the new Doctor.
