Synopsis
Dark Phoenix is a 2019 American superhero film based on the Marvel Comics X-Men characters. It is a sequel to 2016's X-Men: Apocalypse, the fourth installment in the X-Men film series, fourth and final installment of the prequel films, phase 3 of the MCU. It is also the final installment in the X-Men film series to be produced by Bad Hat Harry Productions. It was written, co-produced, and directed by Anthony and Joe Russo and stars an ensemble cast featuring Gary Oldman, Scott Eastwood, Evan Rachel Wood, Joel Edgerton, Nathalie Emmanuel, Natalia Dyer, Florian Munteanu, Lily James, Joe Kerry, Liam Hemsworth, Naomi Scott, Nick Robinson, Sabrina Carpenter, Elsie Fisher, Sarah Yarkin, Fumi Nikaido, Zachary Levi, Jeremy Irons, Ana De Amars, Milo Gibson, Ezra Miller, Vanessa Kirby and Johnny Depp.
Dark Phoenix tells the origin story about how Rogue becomes the Phoenix. The story follows Rogue as she turns to the Dark Side and becomes Lord Phoenix, Apprentice of Doctor Doom and the one who ends the golden age of heroes.
Dark Phoenix premiered on December 15, 2019, at the Cannes Film Festival, then released worldwide on December 19, 2019. The film received positive reviews and is widely considered to be the best installment of the X-Men franchise, with praise for its mature tone, story, emotional weight, action sequences, score, visual effects, and the performances of Oldman, Irons, Depp, Dyer, and Eastwood.
