Synopsis

Maria Tallchief's life is a testament to the power of pursuing one's dreams against all odds. Raised on the Osage Nation reservation in Oklahoma, Maria faced cultural barriers and discrimination, but she never let that deter her from her love of dance. As she followed her passion, she found herself at the center of the ballet world, dancing with George Balanchine's New York City Ballet and becoming its first American-born prima ballerina.

Description of Marjorie Tall Chief (Marjorie Tallchief):

Marjorie Tallchief was an American ballerina and member of the Osage Nation. She was the younger sister of the late prima ballerina, Maria Tallchief, and was the first Native American to be named "première danseuse étoile" in the Paris Opera Ballet.
