Officer Daniel “Dan” Gunn has spent over two decades patrolling the small town, long enough to see its best and worst. Once an idealist, Gunn has become jaded and no-nonsense, convinced that most problems can be solved with a hard glare and a firmer hand. He doesn’t waste words, rarely smiles, and has little patience for panic or superstition. Despite his rough edges, he’s reliable in a crisis, his experience and authority make him one of the few townsfolk people turn to when things spiral out of control. Gunn has a tense respect for Rachel, admiring her ability to keep her head under pressure but dismissing what he sees as her “overthinking.” To him, a virus is just a virus, and fear spreads faster than any sickness. His skepticism keeps him from noticing the early warning signs until it’s too late. When Gunn is lured by the haunting melody of “Daisy, Daisy” in the second act, the infection twists his no-nonsense demeanor into something chilling. He returns with the same stone-faced authority, but now paired with a disturbingly warm smile and a false, maternal gentleness laced into his voice. His unpredictability makes him even more dangerous than the average infected: one moment reassuring townsfolk in a patronizingly sweet tone, the next erupting into explosive violence.
