Mama Annie is a reclusive woman who has lived on the edges of town for decades. She’s a tall, wiry figure with weathered hands, sharp eyes, and a voice that carries a peculiar musical lilt, almost like every word is half-sung. Once known as the midwife who delivered many of the town’s children, Annie withdrew from the community years ago after the death of her only son. Since then, she’s been seen wandering the fields at dusk, humming old lullabies, her presence feeding rumors and superstition. When the “Daisy Virus” begins to spread, the town’s fear finds its scapegoat in Annie. Her habit of humming “Daisy, Daisy” on quiet nights makes her the perfect target for suspicion. Townsfolk swarm her home, accuse her of being the “Daisy Voice,” and hound her relentlessly. Every day, she endures shouts, threats, and stones hurled at her doorstep. Yet Annie never retaliates. She stands silently, sometimes rocking in her chair, as if she’s used to bearing the weight of blame. Rachel and Jack see through the hysteria, realizing Annie herself is as much a victim as anyone else. When they speak with her, they find a woman who is weary but deeply kind, her odd mannerisms masking a grief so profound it borders on otherworldly. She tells them she hears the voice too, but instead of fearing it, she treats it with the calm of someone who’s lived with sorrow her whole life. Though never proven to be infected, Annie exists in a strange liminal space that is her home, half feared, half pitied. However, just as Mama Annie was about to make it, she was pushed towards the infected by Nathan, who purposefully pushed her to their direction due to his heartlessness. However, Nathan was then pushed out of safety by the survivors due to Nathan's actions, getting infected alongside Mama Annie, getting his just-deserts for his doings.
