It's not as if dealing with demons wasn't in fact something correct, but Constantine's mind keeps thinking about how much his heroic attitudes don't always work out, and how being alone perhaps prevented the consequences of his actions from affecting someone more than him. The one who, by nature, has always been kind of inconsequential.
