After everything that has happened in the first three books, the group realizes that their situation has become increasingly unstable. Will has been gone for months, and the messages supposedly coming from him don’t seem right. At the same time, there are unresolved threats, secrets within the group, and major decisions about their future that can no longer be avoided. So they essentially hold their own “conclave.” They isolate themselves aboard the yacht Pithom, miles out at sea, with the idea that nobody leaves until they have dealt with what needs to be dealt with. The vibe is therefore less “new couple gets their own dark romance” and more: the Devil’s Night family locked together + unresolved secrets + relationship tension + planning their next move + figuring out what happened to Will.
