Edward Allen Brock was a journalist investigating a serial killer known as the Sin-Eater. After Brock had received a letter from a man named Emil Gregg, claiming to be the Sin-Eater, Brock decided to write an article revealing Gregg as the serial killer. However, on the same day the article was published, the real Sin-Eater, Stan Carter, was captured by Spider-Man. This would lead to Brock getting fired, his wife leaving him, and his father disowning him.
