On June 2019 a ship bearing 42 migrants called Sea Watch 3 and led by German Captain Carola Rackete was stopped near the Italian coast, after refusing asylum from Libya. Italian Minister of Interior Matteo Salvini, known for his anti-immigration stances, was firmly contrary. When the ship docked, as requested by Human Right Associations, Rackete was arrested and judged with a trial. She won the cause, and later sued Salvini himself for defamation.
