Iris owns a local gym that's about to close and be demolished to make way for a more corporate gym for wealthy people. She recently adopted Richie after the death of her son and daughter-in-law. Throughout the story, she teaches Richie a lesson in humility, telling him that if he wants to assemble a team of monsters, he'll have to teach them how to control their powers, just like he did.
