The scene then presents a flashback, where T'Challa remembers a conversation with his father. - Well, that was it. Nothing is that difficult. [T'Challa] - Oh, of course, especially being the king. T'Chaka looks at him with a serious look, but with a friendly expression. - I understand that you mean it in another sense, but the fact that I am king does not matter that much in this matter. Even a child can think so. - Okay, father. - ....You know, my son, it is easy to get lost in the mistakes we have already made. No matter our position, there is always a bit of that need to be perfect. Sometimes, mistakes even seem like they can define you more than anything. - .... - ...[T'Chaka gives a small but sincere smile] What I mean, T'Challa. Is that I have made mistakes. Or I have wondered if sometimes, I have. Sometimes we cannot repair all of them, but it is precisely in these moments of our failure that we find our true strength. What matters in the end is not making mistakes, but how those mistakes change you, and make you better. You don't have to be defined by the world. You are defined by what you choose to do next. - I understand. - I'm telling you this because...one day I'll see you here. And I know, that won't be one of my mistakes. [Smile] - Don't worry, father. T'Challa and his father hug, before he turns to leave. Before that, T'Chaka says one last thing to him: - And T'Challa. - Yes, father? - ...[Smile] When I became king, your grandfather told me to be better than him. Old T'Chanda was always suspicious, stubborn, but he also had the humility to know his own flaws. Me would have done some things differently. So, in the same way: - May you be a better king than me, son. - I will be, father. It's a promise.
