The murderer turns out to be a cult led by Jesse who seeks to blame the sexist Professor Gelson and the fraternity boys like Billy, Matty or Phil (the latter is part of the cult but she betrays him) and thus take revenge on them because, like Riley, she was sexually assaulted by Brian. Jesse is not satisfied with just killing him but wants to take down any male fraternity she can. She convinced Kris and a large number of people on campus and social media to attack Billy and his brothers in addition to devising a plan to remain a surviving victim and leave Riley and Kris as martyrs of her radical plan.
