A Biopic Film
Japan is still emotionally and physically scarred after WWII. Sergeant Ishiro Honda returns from the war, carrying guilt and memories of devastation. As years went on, news breaks about the Lucky Dragon incident, reigniting nuclear fear to the public. It was at this time when Tomoyuki Tanaka pitched a giant monster film for Toho, Ishiro Honda was picked to direct the creature feature with hundreds of staff including Eiji Tsuburaya, Akira Ifukube, and Haruo Nakajima. But when making the film he wanted something deeper, something that needed to be addressed throughout history. It’s not about the monster… it’s about why the monster had to exist.
