Marion Michael Morrison (born Marion Robert Morrison; May 26, 1907 – June 11, 1979), known professionally as John Wayne and nicknamed Duke, was an American actor, director, producer and Presidential Medal of Freedom recipient. He was among the top box office draws for three decades famous for his roles in Western Films. His roles include Raoul Walsh's Western The Big Trail (1930), John Ford's Stagecoach (1939), Red River (1948), The Searchers (1956), The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance (1962), and True Grit (1969), and The Shootist (1976).
