Beta Ray Bill

In this canon animated series, the Korbinite race faces extinction after the fire demon Surtur destroys their galaxy. To save his people, the Korbinites engineer a champion, Beta Ray Bill, through cybernetic enhancements, tasking him with guarding their fleet of refugee ships as they drift through deep space in cryostasis. When the sentient ship Skuttlebutt detects an unknown vessel entering their sector, it awakens Bill to defend the fleet. The intruder is Thor, sent by S.H.I.E.L.D. to investigate the massive alien presence. A misunderstanding leads to a fierce confrontation where Bill, physically formidable and highly skilled, manages to knock Thor’s hammer, Mjolnir, from his hand. Because Thor remains separated from Mjolnir for more than 60 seconds, he reverts to his frail mortal form, Dr. Donald Blake. In the ensuing chaos, Bill discovers he can lift the discarded hammer and is instantly transformed, gaining the power and armor of Thor. Odin intervenes by teleporting both warriors to Asgard, where he orders a trial by combat on the volcanic realm of Skartheim to decide who the true owner of Mjolnir is. Bill wins the duel by maneuvering Thor into a lava pit, but rather than executing his opponent, he demonstrates a noble spirit and refuses to kill a helpless foe. Impressed by Bill’s honor and worthiness, Odin decrees that both are worthy and commissions the dwarves of Nidavellir to forge a new weapon for the Korbinite: the uru hammer Stormbreaker. Bill subsequently uses his new power to help Thor defeat Surtur, solidifying his role as a cosmic protector and oath-brother to the Asgardians.
