Nickel is generally a pessimist, as stated by Pin, while also being one of the more rational and levelheaded characters in the season. He more often than not has a bored expression whenever onscreen. In post-hiatus BFDIA, Nickel seems to be much happier-go-luckier than he was previously, perhaps his more modern personality seeping into the writing of his character. However, he only says one of his iconic nonsensical phrases in "Well Rested", so it seems as if he hasn't gotten accustomed to doing this frequently yet.
