The Killing Joke is the story of the shooting of Barbara Gordon, daughter of Commissioner James Gordon, by the Joker, Batman's eternal enemy. The Bat-man sets off in pursuit of the Joker and puts him in Arkham Prison, but Barbara does not recover and becomes paralysed, as a result of which she is forced to abandon her career as Batgirl and becomes Oracle.
