Synopsis

The first film of a new Batman franchise. It is about a young and inexperienced Bruce Wayne, who is just learning to become Batman and fight crime in Gotham with the help of his butler, Alfred Pennyworth. It has been less than ten years since Bruce's parents were murdered in front of him when he was a boy. His suit and gadgets are still in their infancy. It has a dark and gritty noir tone to it. The main villains are Victor Zsasz and Carmine Falcone, with David Cain as a minor antagonist. Batman is investigating the murders and crimes of Zsasz, hunting him relentlessly with the reluctant help of Commissioner Jim Gordon, Detective Harvey Bullock, and DA Harvey Dent. Bruce transforms into the Batman we know by the end of the film.

Description of Detective Mel Lomax:

Detective Mel Lomax is a corrupt Gotham cop and the partner of Harvey Bullock. He is in the pocket of Carmine Falcone and other crime bosses, ordered by Falcone to sabotage the efforts of Batman, Harvey Dent, Lieutenant Jim Gordon, Rachel Dawes and mayoral candidate Clayton Troy in their attempts to clean up Gotham. Manipulative and resourceful, Gordon and Dent are conducting an investigation on him. Lomax's loyalty to Falcone brings him in direct conflict with Batman.
