Jervis is schizophrenic, obsessive-compulsive and highly disillusioned. Despite his high intellect, he identifies more with children than with adults, when agitated, Jervis starts to communicate through rhymes and reports that Jervis alternates moments of lucidity and pictures of manic-depressive disorder. Jervis often makes references and quotes to Alice in Wonderland and presents difficulties in separating fiction and reality. In addition to the obsession with Lewis Carroll's character, he has a compulsion for hats.
